KALAMAZOO, Mich.- The Western Michigan men's soccer team defeated Cincinnati on Labor Day 2-0. Senior midfielder Brandon Bye scored in the 14th minute to give the Broncos the lead which they held the rest of the game.

"I'm very happy for our guys today, their attitude and commitment was great for 90 minutes and their reward was victory." Head coach Chad Wiseman said. "Defensively I thought we were able to keep Cincinnati from finding a rhythm. We were locked in on their explosive players and really limited their chances at goal."

Shots came early and often from the Broncos, outshooting the Bearcats 21-5. The Broncos got the lead early in the 14th minute, senior forward Jay McIntosh crossed the ball into the box which hit off of redshirt junior Connor McNulty then bounced off the goalpost right back to Bye for an easy finish to give the Broncos the 1-0 lead.

In the second half of the game the Broncos continued to take plenty of shots and push for a second goal. McIntosh sent the ball in and found Bye for a shot that was saved and deflected to the feet of sophomore midfielder Anthony Bowie who sent into the back of the net.

Senior goalkeeper Drew Shepherd recorded one save on the afternoon and was able to record his third straight shutout. The Bronco defense has not allowed a goal in the last 315 minutes of play.

"We were a bit unlucky not to find a second goal earlier but it didn't discourage the guys. Eventually we broke through and it was really nice to see Bowie find the back of the net."

WMU will be on the road for their next few games. The Broncos first head to Butler for a game on Friday, Sept. 8 starting at 7 p.m. WMU then faces Drake on Sunday, Sept. 10 at 4 p.m.
